What We Look Like
Looking For a Church?
Be our guest!
The familiar song from Disney’s movie Beauty and the Beast comes to mind. If I remember correctly Lumiere, the candlestick, sings, “Be our guest, be our guest, put our service to the test…” We’d love you to be our guest, and put our “service” to the test.
There are about 250 churches in the greater Kalamazoo area. I believe every church has strengths and benefits to offer. Each church has it’s own “personality” as well. Finding the church that is right for you and your family can be a challenging task. I hope that the information on this page will help you in this process.
What happens on a typical Sunday?
Sunday services begin at 9:30 AM and 11:15 with about 30 minutes of contemporary worship music. We begin our services with worship because we believe that a primary purpose for gathering together is to express our appreciation of God and thank Him for all that he has done for us. Following the time of singing, Pastor Cameron (or another speaker) will teach from the Bible on a topic that connects with real life. Then we have a brief time of announcements and we receive an offering. Our Sunday services normally end about 10:45 AM and 12:30 PM, afterward there is opportunity for anyone to receive prayer ministry following the service. Also, in between first and second service from 10:45 to 11:15, Intersection happens–a perfect time for people from both services to meet and connect!
What should I wear?
There is no dress code at New Day. You are free to dress in whatever manner you feel comfortable worshiping in. Most people dress casual to business casual, but jeans and t-shirts are as welcome as a suit and tie.
What about my kids?
We provide nursery and children’s ministry for ages 6 months through 5th grade during the Sunday morning service. You are welcome to sign in your children when you arrive, if you wish for them to participate in the children’s programs. Or if you prefer, you are more than welcome to have your children stay with you during the entire service. There is also a nursing mothers room where you can feed your infants if needed.
How big is New Day?
The size of a church affects many things, so this is a valid question. New Day’s Sunday service currently averages between 150 and 200 in attendance, including adults and children. This makes us much smaller than some “mega-churches” yet enables us to offer some of the amenities like a full worship band, complete children’s ministry and multiple pastoral staff. Yet we are not so big that you feel lost in a crowd. Our goal is to continue to grow, eventually adding additional services and enlarging our building. But we never make numeric growth more important than individual spiritual growth and staying pure to the type of church God has called New Day to be.
What “denomination” is New Day?
New Day is a non-denominational evangelical, charismatic Bible-based local church that believes the Bible to be the sole authoritative source for doctrine.
We are a non-denominational church, but we are not anti-denominational. We believe that every church that has Jesus Christ as Lord and the Bible as it’s foundation is genuine. Different denominations (i.e. Lutheran, Baptist, Methodist, etc.) all represent various emphasis upon truths that God has revealed throughout Church history. So we feel every church has something to offer. A pastor friend of mine says there is one church in Kalamazoo, with many “branch offices.”
